A gorgeous friend of ours recently got engaged and we are over the moon for her. This got me thinking about our wedding and thought this would be a great time to share our wedding story with you.

We got married on 21st May 2016, I was 24 and Tim was 29. We were living in Townsville at the time so decided to get married there were it would be easier to be hands on planning the wedding. Looking back we probably should have gotten married in Taroom closer to all of our family and friends, but being young and knowing all we did not.

The Invitations

We decided to go unique with our invitations they were a gorgeous engraved timber customized invitations. We got the invitations from a website called Personalised Favours we also ordered wine and beer glasses for our parents and bridal party from this website. Our invitations came with matching paper RSVP and accommodation cards.

If you are getting married or love to give personalised gifts check them out they are so easy to deal with and have a huge range. There was no request to big or small that was too much of a hassle for them.

The Venues:

We had our ceremony at the Anzac Park on the Strand under some beautiful fig trees. Such a lush green area is beautiful for any event.

If you are looking to book Anzac park or any garden area in Townsville you will need to jump onto the Townsville City council website – https://www.townsville.qld.gov.au/facilities-and-recreation/parks-beaches-and-community-venues/venues-and-open-space-bookings there is an hourly fee on locations. Definitely worth it to get married somewhere beautifully green and well maintained.

The Reception

We held our reception at the Townsville Yacht club on the deck overlooking the Townsville Marina. The Yacht Club was affordable, easy to deal with and served a fantastic meal. They also have a function room available for hire and multiple different food and drink packages to suit all budgets. The club is in a perfect location close to Palmers street which is filled with accommodation and restaurant options for your guests.

The Celebrant

The celebrant we used was recommended by our photographers and she was absolutely amazing. Amanda is so easy to deal with, so welcoming and made everything so easy. You can either contact her via her website or facebook page.

The Photographer

Our photographers were the beautiful Liam and Mandy Postle from Postle Photography. I can not fault this team, they catch natural moments that you don’t think anyone sees. They only do minimal editing on photos so you really get to see the real you not a photo shopped version, which we love.

Liam and Mandy have just relocated to Millaa Millaa on the Atherton Tablelands after a long career in Townsville. So if you are looking for a wedding photographer, maternity shoot, family portraits (plus anything else in between) or a videographer in that area Liam and Mandy are the ones to call.

The Florist

For our flowers I went to The Townsville Flower Market having no idea at all what I wanted. They were able to guide me and help me decide what I wanted without pressuring me into making decisions.

The flowers were amazing, could not fault them at all. Usually with roses they bruise easily, but somehow these didn’t, they were perfect all day. We still have the bridesmaid flowers and Tim’s button hole flower. We sent my bouquet to be put on Tim’s fathers grave with family from the area.

The pricing seemed to be reasonable however, I have no idea what flowers should be worth. They were definitely quality for money.

Our flowers were:
– Bridal Bouquet: Teardrop design bouquet featuring roses and baby’s breath. The bouquet is to include Adrenalin – deep red, Chantilly – cream and Bella – dusty pink Grandiflora roses as well as baby’s breath with scattered greenery throughout the design.
– Bridesmaids Bouquets: A posy design featuring premium white babies breath. Finished on a hidden underlay of green camellia leaves and bound with hessian and twine. The twine is to be finished in a bow.
– Flower Girls: An adjustable flower garlands featuring seasonal flowers in deep pink and purple tones with bits of babies breath. Finished with a twine tie.
– Throw Posy: A petite posy design to compliment the bridal bouquet.
– Corsage – Mothers x2 – white spray rose pin on corsage featuring twine and babies breath. Grandmothers x4 – white spray rose pin on corsage featuring twine and babies breath.
– Buttonholes: Groom – A Magadi Rose with some babies breath bound with twine. Groomsmen – Babies breath bound with twine. Father- An Emmanuelle Rose with some babies breath bound in twine. Grandfathers – White spray rose bound in twice. Pageboys- Babies Breath bound in twine.

The Bridal Party

The Bride

This is one thing that my mother and I definitely did not agree on. Mother’s often have an idea in mind for their daughter’s wedding dress and my mother pictured lace and a big train which ended up being the complete opposite of what I got.

I found my dress on sale at Bella Donna Bridal in Townsville which has now shut down. It was plain not a single piece or lace or glam or anything like that. I adored my dress and still do and being on sale just made it even better.

My hair was done by Emphasis Hair and Beauty in Belgian Gardens. Emphasis had an amazing bridal package at the time which included colouring and beauty work as well as a hair trial and hair on the day for myself and one bridesmaid. The pricing for the other bridesmaids, flower girls and mothers were very reasonable as well. Even if you are not getting married for a little while and want to check them out they have a great new client offer you can take advantage of.

My make up, the bridesmaids and mothers were done by the amazing Mandy from Postle Photography, they were local at the time so did a trial on the same day I had my hair trial which was amazing. Always a great idea to try to get a hair, make up trial and a dress fitting all on the same day so you know if something doesn’t work.

The bridesmaid dresses seemed like the only thing mum and I agreed on the whole time we were planning the wedding. While trying on wedding dresses at Signature Bridal and Formal in Townsville we came across these gorgeous floral dresses that were just perfect and the decision was made on the spot.

Grooms and Groomsmen

We were super lucky when we were suit shopping that Tarocash had the perfect suit for us and all the groomsmen could go and try them on where they lived or close by.

The Decorations

For the decorations we went with Wedding Works/Out of the Blue Events they have a lovely team however there seemed to be a break down of communication between what I wanted and what they could do. The ideas I had in my head and the photos I provided were definitely not what I got. What we received was very plain and there was nothing on our bridal table at all. I was shocked and disappointed when I walked into my own reception, which no bride wants on their wedding day.

The Cake

Our master piece of a cake that Tim absolutely loved was from Janines Cake Art. They are a lovely little shop in Townsville, with great service and reasonable pricing. The cake tasted absolutely amazing and we still have our top layer in our freezer.

Well that was our wedding in a nut shell. If you are planning a Townsville wedding I hope this helps you figure out your vendors. Don’t forget to shop around to get the best value for money and ask for examples of their work and designs for approval. Do not let anyone make you feel pressured into a decision it is your day and you are the only one who has to be happy.
